Ideological shortcoming of Pakistan

In the previous blog we  identify the five basic problems of Pakistan in this blog we will elaborate the first major problem which is ideological shortcoming, ideology of Pakistan is based on two nation theory and Islamic nationalization both of these are not  inclusive ideas, as these created difference on the basis of  religion  among the people living  in the same areas, with same culture and tradition  and speaking  same languages.

Islamic Nationalization

Sayyid Ahmad Khan defined Indo-Muslim identity as a distinctive cultural identity in relation to both Hindu India and to the rest of the Ummah or the Muslim World. Muslim rule had resulted in the development of the Indo-Muslim culture marked by Indo-Persian influences, which was exclusive to the Indian Muslims. this idea of  Islamic nationalization was very much against the  basic concept of ummah(nation without border) and  the popular idea of the time pan Islamism, which was spread and preached in subcontinent by  Jamal uddin Afghani a renowned Muslim scholar of 19th century, therefore this ideas of islamic nationalization was not unanimously accepted by all Muslim scholar and leader  of subcontinent  like Maulana Azad, Khan Abdul ghaffar khan, Mukhtar Ansari  and other most deobandi school of thoughts scholars.

This type of Islamic nationalization does not fit into any definition of modern concept of nationalization, nor into the Islamic ideology of ummah(nation without boarder) therefore this basis of Pakistan ideology is weak and it is not based on historical events and facts. Muslim leader tries to blend modern nationalism with religion neglecting the cultural, lingual and regional  affiliation of people of subcontinent, these mixture some how created a sense of false nationalism in the heart of the Muslim of subcontinent, which was not a sustainable in boarder run, as it create alienation form Muslims living in different part of the world  and  hatred against the  peaceful coexistence of Islam with different religion. after formation of pakistan as time pass bye and different event took place in the world  the sustainability of this   Islamic nationalization became more and more   questionable, therefore the need to do more for it sustainability was increased,  instead of rethinking on the erroneous basis of it ideology  the state of Pakistan  tried to cover it up by integrating  radicalization into every corner of its society,  as a result of it religious extremism, religious intolerance and sectarian violence has increased in Pakistan. this extremism has hinder social, cultural, and scientific progress by promoting rigid beliefs that oppose modern values and advancements. This lead to resistance against education, scientific research, and societal reforms.

Two Nation Theory

According to some historians, Jamal uddin afghani was the first person who  considered Muslim and Hindus as separate nation with different way of life, costume and tradition,   as he was the advocator of pan Islamism   he did not believe that the Muslim of subcontinent to be a different nation but were  part of much border Muslim ummah,   it was Syed ahmad khan who present the two nation theory which become the basis of formation of Pakistan  , he  believed that Muslim of subcontinent are a different nation from Hindus by every definition, they  have a different culture, civilization, tradition, literature, language and way of life to distinguish themselves from other nations in India. in 1876 Syed ahmad khan exclaimed when speaking at Benares.

“I am convinced now that Hindus and Muslims could never become one nation as their religion and way of life was quite distinct from each other. Now I am convinced that these communities will not join wholeheartedly in anything. At present there is no open hostility between the two communities but it will increase immensely in the future. He who lives, will see"

After Syed different   Muslim leader and religious scholar promoted two nation theory which form the basis for formation of independent Muslim state ,  the special mention are Allama Iqbal and Muhammad ali Jinnah, in 1930 at Allahabad Allama iqbal delivered his famous speech in which he envisioned a Muslim India within India,

" India is a continent of human groups belonging to different races, speaking different languages, and professing different religions [...] Personally, I would like to see the PunjabNorth-West Frontier ProvinceSindh and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single State. Self-government within the British Empire, or without the British Empire, the formation of a consolidated North-West Indian Muslim State appears to me to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of North-West India"

So with the passage of time the two nation theory was further strengthen and propagated in subcontinent. in 1940, at Lahore resolution a separate homeland was demanded  and finally Pakistan came into being on 14 august 1947. this two nation theory increase hatred among Muslim and Hindus, due to which communal violence increase in the subcontinent, this fuel religious extremism  and division.   after independence  the peaceful coexistence of  Hindus and Muslim in independent Pakistan and India nullify the two nation theory. it make clear on that this theory was not based on facts, history or religious philosophy, it lack moral, legal and logical basis that  but it was only crafted by some religious extremist  to create hatred among Muslim for Hindu religion.

As a nation we must accept the faults in our ideological basis and instead of considering it a holy revelation we must rectify it and understand that upgrading our ideology basis into more inclusive and dynamic which best suit the modern developing time  will not defy us a nation but  will strengthen it further.
